課程概述 |
本課程探討的基本觀點是：性別平等和性別權力關係在社會工作直接服務工作中的運用，
藉由“性別壓抑”文化之透視，了解社會工作實務中「缺乏性別觀點」之工作迷思。
女性主義是以女性觀點和女性經驗出發去看女性的議題。在我們公共領域和私領域
的生活世界其實有釵h層面是受到女性主義的影響，從兒童照顧方案和政策的發展，強暴危
機中心的設立，受暴婦女庇護中心的設置，到老人照護體系的建立等等，都是女性主義觀
下的產物。又例如，女性主義鼓勵婦女在他的生命追尋中有所選擇，已影響女性對就業的
選擇，已影響女性對勞動力市場的投入。女性主義者鼓勵女性既選擇職業生涯也同時選
擇養育小孩，因此有婦女勞動參與率提升的現象，女性主義者也鼓勵女性選擇沒有母職的
生命，總之，女性主義者鼓勵女性可以充分享有生命選擇。本課將首先從女性主義對女性
社會處境的影響開始，了解女性主義與女性選擇之關係。
女性主義範疇中，主要在於挑戰傳統化既存的父權影響力和父權威權的各種結構性
因素，此外，各種法制取向的性別議題的發展，讓女性主義的研究主題，例如強暴、家庭
暴力、亂倫、兒童及少年性交易問題有更多的素材。當前最重要的問題包括對學生(從國
小、國中、高中到大學)的性別刻板印象問題，從教育著手，讓教育中更具有涵?
女性的主題。
儘管女性主義在教育、社會福利、政治、經濟等均有不少的衝擊與影響，但是對社會
工作領域的影響仍然相當小。據研究指出，社會工作者中具傳統和性別刻板印象者相當普
遍，性別刻板印象不只出現在社工實務中。也出現在研究中，甚至有些指出社會工作員本
身受到薪資、待遇等性別歧視之情形。另有些研究也指出，社會工作專業女性的角色
衝突和角色緊張，她們在平衡工作和家庭兩責任上有極大衝突。另外，社會工作研究中也
出現社會服務輸送過程傾向於強化性別刻板印象之行為，對女性案主傾向鼓勵依賴，而不
是自主。
社會工作實務中，雖然社會工作者主要是女性，接受服務者也多半是女性，但是女性
主義觀仍未能深植於社會工作實務中。這是本課程設計之目的 |

Provide students an opportunity to understand:
1. Basic concepts of feminist social work
2.How feminism can be applied to social work practice
3. How values, theories and practices of feminist social
work can be integrated together as an intervention
tool to help specific population.

1. Attendance and Participation
If you are on the border between two grades (eg. B+ and A-) strong
attendance (at least 14 classes) and participation can have the effect
of bringing up your grade, although I will not use attendance nor
participation to lower a grade

.Assignment #1 Due: Week 5 (25% of grade)
This assignment is designed to have you examine your own position as a
social worker/student. Using the readings and class discussion A) decide
whether you consider yourself a feminist social worker/student and explain why
or why not. This involves answering whether you are a feminist social
worker/student
B)If you do consider yourself a feminist social worker/student which
theoretical orientation of feminist thought most closely matches your own and
why?
It is possible to consider yourself a feminist but not see yourself
doing feminist social work. If that is the case, explain why.
or
C) If you do not see yourself as a feminist, please take an example from
your own experience and analyze how the personal is political. Helen
Levine’s article " the Personal is Political" is an extended example of that.
No more than 10 pgs.
There is no "correct " answer to this assignment. Rather I am marking
on the basis of your analysis and understanding of the issues, as well
as your ability to tie together the theoretical with the personal.

Assignment #2 Due: Week 10 (25% of grade)
You will be presented in Week 10 (?) with a case example. You are to
imagine that you are the social worker assigned to work with this/these
clients. Using the readings and class discussion, especially from Weeks
5-8, you are to analyze the issues and begin to develop a feminist
approach to responding to this case. While you may consult with each
other on this assignment, I require individual papers, rather than group
efforts to ensure that students are graded according to their own
ability.

Assignment #3 Due: last week of class Week 17 - (50% of grade)
Some of feminist social work issues including group work, policy development,
political advocacy and activism, management and administration, and community
organizing can be the topic of papers. In addition, life span issues from a
feminist anti-oppression perspective, such as work with the elderly, single
mothers, adolescents, can the focus of paper too. Others such as such as
depression, homelessness, poverty, imprisonment, alcohol and drug abuse,
infertility, can be illustrated in your paper with a feminist perspective.
Particular populations such as native people, immigrants, people with
disabilities, sex-trade workers, psychiatric survivors, men, lesbian couples,
women in prison etc. can be your interest in final.
Choose one area of interest (population, life-span issue or problem
area) AND one type of practice (individual, couple, group, policy
development, political advocacy and activism, management and
administration, or community organizing).
This assignment is designed to help you:
A) develop an understanding of one area of interest (population,
life-span issue or problem area) and
B) explore one type of practice from a feminist perspective (individual,
couple, group, policy development, political advocacy and activism,
management and administration, or community organizing).
You are expected to:
C) identify and contrast two different feminist approaches to this
issue,
D) explain what your personal preference as a social worker would be to
dealing with this area and why.
You may choose an area that we have already addressed, but your paper must
include at
least four readings that have not been assigned to the class.
This paper should be approximately 15-20 pgs.
In this assignment, I will be grading on all the criteria listed above
but will be looking particularly for your ability to:
1) integrate feminist principles as they relate to this area of social
work practice
2) understand and analyze the diversity of feminist theories as they
influence the type of practice chosen
3) articulate an opinion about the type of theoretical feminist
framework that "fits" your own personal position
4) develop an understanding in more depth about a particular facet of
social work practice
Be sure to demonstrate that all aspects of the assignment (A-D listed
above) have been incorporated in your paper
